In Case You Missed It: Q&A with Senator Anthony Cannella From California Grocer

What are your top priorities and will the current economic climate impact your ability to achieve the goals you have set for yourself?

As a newly elected senator, my first priority is to help put my constituents back to work. This includes giving small businesses – the engine of our economy – the tools they need to thrive in this challenging economy and by reducing the regulatory and tax burdens that stifle job creation and economic growth.

What was your motivation in seeking a seat in the California State Senate?

As a small-business owner, I know firsthand just how hard it is to grow a business and hire employees, particularly in a recession like the one California is facing today. With unemployment above 15 percent in parts of my district, it’s clear we need representatives in Sacramento who understand what government needs to do – or, many times, needs to stop doing – in order to allow small businesses the best opportunity possible to create jobs and grow our economy.

Outside of your legislative goals, what is your top priority as a member of the California State Senate?

I want the people of the 12th Senate District to know that my door is always open. I’m deeply honored by the confidence they’ve placed in me by electing me to be their representative here in Sacramento, and it’s a responsibility I take very seriously. In addition to my Capitol office, I have district offices in Modesto, Salinas and Merced, and I hope people will always feel welcome to share their thoughts, questions and concerns with me.
