State Senator Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres) brief comment on the first hearing of the Wildfire Preparedness and Response Legislative Conference Committee.
“Mitigating the risk of wildfires in California is a complex issue requiring a holistic approach that will provide a lasting fix. We have a limited time left in this legislative session, and addressing preventive measures must be our immediate focus.
“Every year we see the scope of our fire season intensify, both in length of time and area covered. This year is no different, with fires burning across the state. The Committee faces many decisions, not the least of which is preventing the loss of life, reducing future wildfires and inevitably mitigating the cost. We have much more work ahead.
“Thank you to our brave firefighters on the front line for protecting lives and property.”
The joint committee was convened to evaluate California’s risks and how to prevent, mitigate and recover from our devastating wildfires.
