Senator Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres) honored CASA of Monterey County on the Senate Floor today as his 12th Senate District Non-Profit of the Year.
“Anytime you have the opportunity to recognize an organization that safeguards children in our community, it is a good day,” said Cannella. “Caring for foster youth is a challenging, but vital function. We truly appreciate all the volunteer hours of the advocates.”
Established in 1995, CASA of Monterey County started with just nine advocates. Today, the organization actively champions the cause for hundreds of foster children throughout Monterey County.
The Senate resolution Cannella presented to Executive Director Vicki Myers on the Senate Floor in part read, “Existing so that abused and neglected children in protective care have the chance to become successful adults, CASA of Monterey County is the only local nonprofit of its kind that recruits, trains, and supports community volunteers to serve as court appointed advocates for needy foster children throughout Monterey County.”
“We are thankful for the affirmation from Senator Cannella, and are encouraged by his continued support,” said Myers. “Although it is gratifying to receive recognition for what we do, our real and important focus remains looking out for the best interest of children in our community.”
The awardees continued their celebration at the 3rd Annual Nonprofit Day luncheon, hosted by the California Association of Nonprofits.
