Senator Anthony Cannella’s (R-Ceres) staff today recognized Mary Baker Memorial Scholarship recipient Amanda Gutierrez. Established by Progress Valley, a group of local healthcare administrators, directors of nursing, facility caregivers, and vendors working in skilled nursing facilities, the Mary Baker Memorial Scholarship is a program for local skilled nursing facilities employees wanting to continue their professional development through higher education.
“Elderly members in our community deserve the best care possible, and now, more than ever, we need more healthcare professionals to serve our aging population who live in the Central Valley,” said Cannella. “This scholarship encourages nursing facility employees to pursue a higher education, ultimately contributing much-needed healthcare professionals for our underserved area. I applaud Progress Valley for their commitment to ensuring our area prepares for the future. I also want to congratulate Ms. Gutierrez on being awarded this scholarship and wish her the best in her educational endeavors.”
Gutierrez is currently employed at Oak Valley Care Center in Oakdale. She plans to return to school and become a certified hospital/long-term care coder. The scholarship award will help cover tuition, books, and other educational resources.
“The Progress Valley Chapter is honored to recognize dedicated caregivers and support staff who work in our skilled nursing facilities caring for our long-term care residents, and we are very pleased to have the opportunity to award this scholarship to Ms. Gutierrez, as well as offer scholarship funds to support higher education and career path development,” said English Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Administrator and Progress Valley Chapter President Deanna Hill. “We owe it to our aging generations to provide them with the best care possible and I am very appreciative of Sen. Cannella’s continued support and efforts in the Legislature in working to increase healthcare access to Valley residents.”
