Senator Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres) today issued the following statement regarding Governor Brown's $1 billion Emergency Drought Package.
"I am pleased Governor Brown understands the need to immediately provide aid to communities hit the hardest by this unprecedented drought and this proposal is a good start. I represent a district where some communities are unable to drink from their tap because of groundwater depletion and toxic contaminants -- the governor's proposal would provide the relief needed for these individuals and families," said Cannella. "That said, it is unfathomable in our current drought-stricken state that the State Water Resources Control Board has decided to shut off pumps and now is entertaining the idea of draining reservoirs to increase unimpaired river flows -- this will only exacerbate our situation and again, emphasizes our dire need for additional water storage. We must not lose sight on the importance of water storage. More storage is not only essential, it's the answer to ensuring California has the water resources needed for the future."
