Sen. Cannella Partners With Madera County Deputy Sheriff's Association for Backpack Drive

Senator Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres), along with the Madera County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, handed out backpacks to students at La Vina School this morning.

“I want every child to return to school confident that they have everything they need to succeed. An important part of gaining that confidence comes in something as small as a backpack, paper and pencils,” said Senator Cannella. “It is unfortunate when students, and their parents, have to worry about how they will be able to get necessary supplies. Providing these backpacks will better allow them to focus on what’s important – having a great school experience and obtaining a solid education.”

Chief Civil Deputy and Madera County Deputy Sheriff’s Association President Michael Motz and Cannella delivered almost 50 backpacks to students.

“As a peace officer, I see firsthand everyday how a better education can lead to better opportunities and more enriching lives, and I want to make sure every child has an opportunity to succeed,” said Motz. “This backpack drive is much more than delivering backpacks, it’s about making sure these students know we believe in them and are important enough to invest in their success.”
